According to Stoner, Human Resources Administration is an Administrative function in charge of recruiting, placing, training and developing the members of the organization.
He also mentions that the Human Resources Administration process has seven basic activities:
1. Planning serves to guarantee that, constantly and adequately, the personnel that is needed is available. It is carried out through the analysis of a) internal factors, such as current and expected needs to acquire capable people, vacancies, and departmental expansions and reductions, and b) environmental factors, such as the labor market.
2. Recruitment deals with finding candidates through advertisements, employment agencies, recommendation of friends and visits to universities, among others.
3. Selection involves analyzing applications and resumes, making interviews and skills tests, as well as reference checks, in order to evaluate and select candidates to be presented to managers, who will ultimately select and hire to the candidate.
4. Socialization (orientation) serves to help selected people adapt to the organization. Newcomers are introduced to their companions, made aware of their responsibilities, and informed of the organization's culture, policies, and expectations for employee conduct.
5. Training and development seek to increase the capabilities of employees, in order to increase the effectiveness of the organization. Training is to enhance current job skills.
6. Performance assessment compares the person's job performance against the benchmarks or goals set for the person's job. Poor performance may warrant corrective action, such as further training or termination. While good performance may deserve a reward, such as a raise, bonus, or promotion.
7. Promotions, transfers, demotions, and dismissals reflect the employee's value to the organization. People who perform well can be promoted or transferred to help develop their skills, while people who don't perform well can be demoted, transferred, moved to a less important position, or even a dismissal.
Finally, we mention that the Administration of Human Resources is considered of vital importance within a strategic vision and this last one allows the efficient achievement of the company's organizational objectives.
